Caritas, food banks, the ‘Sindicat de Manters’ street vendors’ union, social housing, child protection centers and nursing homes, among the groups who have received free masks all over the country
Since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, the Catalan National Assembly detected the need and demand of the citizens to have face masks, as they were not available, even though at the time the authorities still said they were not necessary.
Since then, nearly 600,000 masks have been produced. Of these, the volunteers of the Catalan National Assembly and the network of needleworkers from all over the country have sewn more than 300,000, which have been made available to disadvantaged citizens throughout the two hundred branches of the Assembly that have participated in the campaign.
The international relief organization Caritas, food banks, the ‘Sindicat de Manters’ street vendors’ union, social housing, child protection centers and nursing homes are some of the groups who have received free masks all over the country.
Highly successful fundraising campaign against COVID19
Nearly 200,000 have been distributed through supermarkets in kits with two DIY masks. In this case, the volunteers of the organization have taken care of packaging each batch, following the government’s health and safety procedures. The sale of the kits is going to COVID19 research and the purchase of sanitary gear for 11 hospitals all over Catalonia, which will receive €5,000 each.
The Catalan National Assembly currently has about 60,000 masks produced pending distribution, although the main goals of the campaign have been achieved.
